Gonzaga women use second-half surge to top Loyola Marymount, claim outright WCC regular-season title

Jill Townsend scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds as No. 13 Gonzaga took over in the second half en route to a 75-47 victory over Loyola Marymount on Thursday in Los Angeles.
With the win, the Bulldogs (26-2, 15-1 WCC) clinch the West Coast Conference regular-season title and the top seed in next month's WCC Tournament in Las Vegas.
LeeAnne Wirth added 11 points for GU, while freshman twin guards Kaylynne and Kayleigh Truong scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
Ciera Ellington and Raychel Stanley had nine points apiece for the Lions (6-19, 3-10).
Gonzaga got off to a slow start, trailing 21-17 after the first quarter before tying the game at 30 by halftime. The Zags opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run and never looked back.
The Bulldogs shot 43.1% from the floor and 40% (8 for 20) from 3-point range, while limiting LMU to 38.6% overall and 33.3 (4 for 12) from deep.
Gonzaga travels to Pepperdine at 2 p.m. Saturday.
